Cornerstones 1617

We strive to make our curriculum appealing to all of our children and pride ourselves on a broad and balanced approach to learning.

Below are links to the long term plans for Year 1  to Year 6 which give information about the topics and themes that will be delivered each half term in each of the foundation subjects. Please feel very welcome to come in to speak with your child’s class teacher(s) and to look at each unit in more detail. This will enable you to both consolidate and extend the learning taking place in school.

Children in Years 1 to 6 have weekly access to learning through the Cornerstones Curriculum.

This is a published curriculum which covers many interesting topics and themes, as well as meeting all statutory requirements for the delivery of each subject area.

What is Cornerstones Curriculum? – An overview for parents

The Cornerstones Curriculum is a creative approach to learning. It ensures that your children learn in the most creative way and become involved in what they are learning. Cornerstones is based on the Four "Cornerstones" of Learning: Engage, Develop, Innovate and Express as detailed below.

ENGAGE in learning through relevant and emotional experiences which are purposeful and stimulating. Learning takes place both in and out of the classroom.

DEVELOP knowledge, skills and understanding to underpin and make sense of the world around them.

INNOVATE using all their knowledge, skills, understanding and imagination through a challenging and structured provocation where children will work both independently, co-operatively and collaboratively.

EXPRESS the outcomes from their provocations in a variety of different forms using a range of different methods and media, and celebrate this work with the wider community.

Cornerstones Curriculum is delivered through a range of inspirational yet rigorous learning projects. These are based on themes and content from the National Curriculum, but bring learning together in new and exciting ways. Each project combines different strands of learning so that children learn more holistically and start to challenge themselves and learn problem solving skills as they create truly fantastic learning opportunities.
