Science Champs! Craven Herald Report

Pupils from Sutton Community Primary School emerged victorious in a science and technology competition.

They were one of six primary school teams competing in the Great Science Challenge, hosted by South Craven School, Cross Hills.

The pupils, who were all from years three and four, had previously spent time at their own schools designing and making a catapult capable of firing a ping-pong ball.

A South Craven School spokesman said: “The first challenge was to see how far the ball could go and after three attempts, Sutton Community Primary’s mammoth catapult was clearly the winner, though Cononley were not far behind.

“For the second challenge it was accuracy that counted and the pupils had to try to get the ping-pong ball to land in a hoop and this proved very difficult.

“At the end of the afternoon, Sutton were declared the winners and the pupils were presented with a shield and certificate.”
