Lower Key Stage 2 explores arms through the ages.

Years 3 and 4 visited the Royal Armouries in Leeds on Thursday 25th September.  During the all day visit the children explored most of the exhibits.  However, it was the enhanced First Word War gallery that was most relevant to their current topic 'Fallen Fields'.  So far in the topic, the classes have learnt about the cause of the war, reflected on why people volunteered to fight and researched their own families' involvement.

Tommy Teaches (a member of a WW1 historical society) also visited the school and gave an introductory talk about the equipment used.  The armouries trip built on this knowledge, giving the children a more rounded understanding of the technology used 100 years ago.  After seeing the weapons of war and considering their use, the trip helped the children appreciated the scale of the sacrifice made by the those involved.  Mr Horton and Mrs Whitehead would like to thank the staff and parent volunteers for their help.
