Let the cooking begin!

Learning how to cook is a crucial life skill that enables pupils to feed themselves and others affordably and well, now and in later life. (National Curriculum Sep 14)

Mrs Johnson in our kitchen has ensured that we have a great tradition of home cooked food here at Sutton CP. This is now being extended with the introduction of  cookery lessons for children.

From the beginning of this term every child from Y1-Y6 will have the opportunity to prepare cook and eat some simple dishes. The dishes which the children are preparing have been carefully planned by Mrs Humphrey  alongside the ‘Cornerstones’ themes which are being studied in classes.

On the menu for Term 2 1415:-

  • Y1-Y2 – ‘Dinosaur Soup’ (a very green soup of spinach, broccoli & leek!)
  • Y3-Y4 – ‘Falafels’ ( a slightly spicy Greek snack made with chickpeas)
  • Y5-Y6 – ‘Fishcakes’

Cookery at Sutton CP has been met with huge enthusiasm and what is really great to note is that every child tried every dish!
