YR Wedding celebrations!

A few weeks ago  Annabelle in YR brought a wedding magazine into school – she shared with her friends the pictures which showed beautiful dresses, cakes and celebrations. Together they decided that they would like to hold a wedding in their class. Many of the children had had the  experience of going to a wedding some had even been pages and bridesmaids (no as far as we know had been brides or groom before and certainly not a Father of the Bride.

Very quickly the news spread and before we know it there were four brides and four grooms all wanting to take part and so a wedding planning group was set up. Invitations were made and a wheat free cake (so that everyone in the class could have some) was baked to golden perfection. As the wedding date drew near the rings were made and the bouquets carefully tied.

As the Big day dawned the classroom was turned into a church as Rev Jacob married the four happy couples who exchanged homemade rings.  After the ceremony the whole class celebrated with mocktails and cake as the happy couples shared a first dance. It was a truly magical day, one parent summing it all up by telling school

‘I know the entire team work so hard to create a wonderful learning environment for the children, but honestly think that this past week they have taken the children's learning to another level.  From Annabelle and Poppy talking about Weddings and flicking through a magazine, to coordinating a full class Wedding, complete with cake, band, bouquets and buttonholes has just been fantastic! Annabelle has come home each day full of excitement about what they've done that day, and I know lots of the parents have really enjoyed hearing about it all too - and the montage of photos sent home today was literally the icing on the cake, Mrs Dawson is officially our hero!’
