World Book Day - 3 March 16

*** Updated 4 Mar 16***

Yesterday our school population was replaced by a host of characters from books! It was amazing to see Peter Pan talking with Horrid Henry whilst Charlie Bucket solved a maths problem with Bond (James Bond)

We had a whole class worth of characters from  Hogwarts as well as a tribe of Red Riding Hoods and swirl of Princesses. The after school book sale was a great success. It seemed that every second member of staff was hiding as ‘Wally’! Thanks to Mrs Whitehead for all her work in planning the event—all funds raised will go towards our playground development plans.

We have got some exciting plans for World Book Day on Thursday 3 March.

We'd like to invite children and grown ups  to dress-up as a character from a book. Please have fun creating a costume; you do not have to go to great expense as often the simple costumes are the most effective. There are lots of ideas online or ask a teacher at school for ideas!

After school we will be having a special ‘World Book Day Event’ from 3.30-4.30pm. This will involve:

  • Second hand book sale
  • Picture quiz for children
  • Picture quiz for adults
  • Story telling
  • Raffle
  • Tea and coffee
  • Photo booth (have a special photo taken of your costume)
  • Design a book cover competition
  • Colouring competition

To ensure this event is a success, we are looking for support in the following areas:

  • Donations of second hand books in good condition (please bring these into school from  22nd February).
  • Help with serving tea and coffee
  • Raffle prize donations
  • Donations of cakes, buns and biscuits

There will be no entry fee for this event, but there will be a small charge for different activities. All proceeds will go to our school playground improvement fund.

Please let Mrs Whitehead know if you are able to volunteer to help with any of the above – it would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your continued support.
