***Updated Jul 16 ***

Thank you and well done to seven of our Y3 and Y4 pupils for being brilliant ambassadors for the school on Sunday 3rd July at the North Yorkshire School Games in York.

They were competing for the school in the Y3/4 Hockey Tournament and were representing Craven. They they gave 100% and behaved impeccably.

There were a few scrapes and knocks, but still carried on.

They played six games and won one and draw another game.

They showed great sportsmanship congratulating the other teams .
Everyone played in all of the six games

The Year 3 & 4 hockey competition took place on the Astroturf at South Craven School on Tuesday 17th May. Our team was made up of Joe, Toby, Brooke, Finlay, Bryan, Harry and Eva.

There were 5 teams that took part in the hockey competition, these were:

  • Sutton CP
  • Cowling
  • Glusburn
  • Sutton C of E
  • Hothfield

The games were played on a 5 a side basis with two substitutes. Every match two girls had to be played at all times. The format of the hockey tournament meant that each team had to play one another, and the winners being decided by a league based system to go to York for the finals to compete against harder teams. Every team played 2 games. Our first game was against Hothfield and we won 4-0, all the goals were scored by Toby. The second game was against Cowling where we  lost 1-0 however, we still got through to the semi-finals against Sutton C of E, where we won 1-0 with Toby scoring again.  These were competitive and well contested matches.  The games were 6 minutes each way.

In the end the winning school was Sutton CP, who won the final against Cowling 2-1. The first goal of the match was Cowling’s and, then Toby  scored with a sneaky tap and Joe scored the winner with a long shot. As a result of this we will be representing our Sutton CP at the North Yorkshire Finals on the 3rd July.  At the end the team was tired out.

The team were really pleased with their efforts and look forward to preparing for the next challenge. There were awards and there was also extra awards to people who played well. All spectators and other pupils were really supportive and congratulated the team on their successes.  Finally Lea Stubbington, a South Craven teacher thanked the players and staff for their commitment and time on the day, that everybody thoroughly enjoyed.
