Roald Dahl 100! - Sep 16

***Updated***

All chiddlers did indeed have a splendiferous week last week. They listened to  grown ups read extracts from their favourite Roald Dahl books as well as  doing lots of research and writing. The week Culminated in a dressing up day on  Friday  which was topped of with popcorn and Dahltastic films in the day.

We had Marvellous Matildas, Fantastic Mr Foxes and Mr Wonka’s galore!

Who knew that Charlie  Bucket and his golden ticket actually was a pupil at Sutton CP, along with Mike TV and Verruca Salt? Mr Horton had grown giant ears and was seen eating a snozzcumber whilst drinking frobblescottle along with some rather smaller BFGs!

Rather marvellously  al the  Dahl books we had on display  in the library have been replaced by  splendifereous home learning and marvellous  cursive handwriting whilst the books have been seen being read enthusiastically  around school.

Next week is going to be 'Dahlicious' in school for Y1-Y6!

Next Tuesday, it is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Roald Dahl and we are planning to have some Marvellous Roald Dahl events and learning throughout the week beginning Monday 12th September.

As part of our celebrations we are having a special day on Friday 16th September. We would like to invite children in Years 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 to come to school in costume as a character from one of Roald Dahl’s books. Don't spend lots of money on costumes...

Many of his characters are children -

  • Sophie from the BFG;
  • Charlie Bucket
  • Danny Champion of the World;
  • Matilda
  • James (and his Giant Peach!)

These costumes would be simple to create from the children’s own clothes. Also there are lots of suggestions of ideas for simple costumes on these websites:

www.theschoolrun.com/roald-dahl-dressing-up-costumes

www.roalddahl.com/charity/fundraising-and-events/dahlicious-dress-up-day...

But if you want to come as The BFG or Willy Wonker that would be scrumdiddlyumptios too!

There's no charge for the day but we will be making a donation from school to The Roald Dahl Marvellous Children’s Charity which raises money for seriously ill children - if you would like to make a donation on the day please send it in with your child on Friday.

On Friday afternoon we are having a Roald Dahl film festival with a selection of films that the children can choose from to watch that afternoon. The tuck shop will also be selling popcorn. There is a letter coming home with your child tonight with more details.

As a lead into the week the home learning this week is to produce a Roald Dahl piece of artwork. The best of these will go on display in the library. This can be anything linked to his books e.g. portraits of characters, book cover designs, models of things from the books – the possibilities are endless! Please can these be brought in on or before Friday 16th September we can select the best for display.

Many thanks for your help - it's going to be splendiferous for your charming chiddlers!
