The school met together first thing in the morning for an assembly. Y1 and Y2 were in the hall with all other classes joining virtually. Together we talked about the significance of ‘Poppy day’ and how many people in the world would be observing the two minute silence at 11.00 am, on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. Mrs. Beetles shared the story of her Grandad’s brother who died as a prisoner of war whilst building the Burma Railway. Afterwards classes watched a short film about the National Act of Remembrance. .
At 11.00 am the school paused in silence for two minutes whilst in the park the oldest Y6 pupils laid a wreath on behalf of the school on the village cenotaph. They were accompanied by the Y6 School Council Members, Mrs. Fletcher and Mrs. Beetles. Representatives for local churches led a short service which was attended by pupils from Sutton CE and Glusburn Schools and the community.
We will remember.
