Safer Internet Day is marked globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children.
Online safety teaching takes place across the year however we always plan some focussed teaching each February.
Next Thursday 1 Feb, each class will take part in a variety of activities about online safety. Pupils will engage in discussions about how to stay safe online, take an online survey to check their cyber savviness and improvise sketches during a drama workshop.
The drama workshop will allow KS2 pupils to enter the online world. In a world of superheroes and villains, pupils will work in groups to navigate their way out of some tricky situations. Will they be able to keep their alter ego a secret?
Through playful and fun storytelling, pupils will learn how to keep safe when playing on the internet and realise that the world inside the screen is perhaps not so different from the real world after all.
What we want children to know ...
- · The importance of passwords and keeping personal information private
- · To always ask an adult if they are unsure about something they come across whilst playing online
- · People don't always look like they should
- · The importance of being nice whilst using the internet
- · Not to accept 'gifts', or open emails from strangers
Snapchat? Instagram? Facebook? You Tube? Twitter? Messenger?Online gaming?
On Thursday 8 Feb there will be an in internet forum for parents and children.
This will take place in Y4 from 3.30-4.00 and be led by Mr Horton
Families play a crucial role in empowering and supporting children to use technology responsibly, respectfully, critically and creatively. This can be achieved by ensuring an open dialogue with children, educating them to use technology safely and adults acting as digital role models. The event will be an opportunity to find out more about how to keep your child safe on the internet at home. If you have some specific concerns you can let Mr Horton know before hand and he can build these into the session
