Autumn term highlights

Year 5 had a fabulous  Autumn term. Here are just a few highlights

Fallen Fields

Our topic to commemorate WW1 was ‘Fallen Fields’ where the children across school learnt about WW1. As part of this topic we had a special remembrance, reconciliation and forgive ness day where lots of our school friends held workshops. We also had Tommy Teaches visit our school and Mrs Whitehead’s Dad (Mr Hodgson) came to talk about his Granddad’s experience in WW1. We even went on a walk around Sutton to visit houses where soldiers were born before they went off the fight in the war; this was fascinating.

Christmas 1914

After dedicated practice to learning songs, dances and lines children from year 5 and 6 performed ‘Christmas 1914’ at South Craven School. The whole production was sensational and all children worked really hard on creating such a brilliant musical. We had lots of positive feedback from members of the audience.

“I was blown away by such amazing drama skills. ”

“The production was incredibly powerful and emotional.”

P.E

Our P.E sessions consisted of running, football and rugby. During the first half term we had a football tournament for all of KS2 children. The children played in mixed year group teams and each team played 5 matches. It was great fun and we look forward to another KS2 sports tournament next term.

Sutton’s Got Brass Performance

Our community brass band has really got going now and several children from year 5 are now committed members. During the last week of term the band  performed to the whole school and parents, where ‘Good King Wenceslas’ and ‘When the Saints’ were both performed brilliantly. The band sounded absolutely superb.
