Our Rainforest - Jul 16

Well done to Year 1 and Year 2 for their excellent production of ‘Our Rainforest’ written by Mrs Wendy Turvey. Their bright costumes, colourful animal faces, superb singing and of course wonderful acting brought the stage to life on the evening of Thursday 7th July 2016. The production was written for the school to fit in with the whole school topic theme of Rio De Vida and it helped the children to further their understanding of life in the Brazilian rainforest; the animals that inhabit there and the danger the rainforest is constantly under. The story highlights the plight of rainforests around the world as the Bosses and Workmen plan to cut trees down for the benefit of humans whilst not realising the damage they are causing for the animals and people living there. The adventure then begins when the animals and natives come together with a plan to save their home! The plan works and the animals scare the workmen and bosses into stopping their destruction just in time. The story ends with the realisation for the Bosses and workmen that recycling could be the new way forward and an enormous celebratory Samba party erupts in the rainforest for all that live there.

The Bosses delivered their roles in true style bringing bossiness with some humour to the stage and the workmen/women did as they were told brilliantly and entertained us with their amusing banter.

The animals and family tugged on our heart strings as they said their lines with such emotion and passion, with some extremely convincing acting in particular from the girls of the family.

Finally the KS1 singers and soloists remembered the songs and sang beautifully to enhance the story plot and give it the overall WOW factor!

Thanks so much to the parents and staff who helped out with the face paints, especially to Mrs Gray who provided us with images and ideas, the children looked amazing! A massive thank you to Miss Ibbotson and Mrs Abson who put the scenery together and really did bring the rainforest to Sutton CP School! Finally thank you to Mrs Turvey who wrote the production and supported all children and staff in producing a great show!
