Citizenship Event

On Thursday 20th April 16 of our Y4 and 5 pupils took part in a Citizenship Workshop called ‘Know Your Na-
tion’ at South Craven. It was a brilliant event, organized and run by three South Craven Y11 pupils for their
GCSE project. Our children learned about topics such as parliament, democracy, public speaking and voting.
They all got to do activities and role-play, choosing their own roles from being a monarch, prime minister, mem-
bers of parliament, Lord or Baroness.

The children learned about democracy by creating their own political party and choosing which laws they sup-
port or not, as well as creating their own laws. Each party then had to work together and create a convincing public speech to persuade the public voters (in this case all the other party members) to vote for their party and join them. It was great to see our children really engaging with all the activities, working well together, helping each other and demonstrating confidence in their teamwork. All the children had fun and enjoyed this event.
