Pupil Premium Grant (PPG)
The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is extra funding given to schools by the government to help all children reach their full potential.
It is mainly aimed at supporting:

-
Children from disadvantaged backgrounds
-
Children who are currently or have been in local authority care
-
Children of armed forces families

Who qualifies for the funding?
Schools receive Pupil Premium funding for children who meet any of the following criteria:
Disadvantaged pupils:
-
Children who currently receive Free School Meals (FSM), or have done at any point in the last six years.
-
Looked-after children (LAC), which means children in care or provided with accommodation by a local authority.
-
Children who were previously looked after but are no longer in care due to adoption, a special guardianship order, or a residence/child arrangements order.
Service children:
-
Children with a parent serving in the regular armed forces, or who have done so in the past. This is based on school census information.

How is the money used?
We use this funding to support learning and well-being, following advice from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) to make sure we spend it in ways that have the biggest impact.
Our approach is explained each year in our Pupil Premium Strategy, which is approved by our Governing Body. This document includes:
-
How much funding we receive
-
The main barriers to learning for our eligible pupils
-
The support and activities we’ve chosen to help our pupils succeed, both in learning and in their wider school experience
Examples of support funded by PPG include:
-
Targeted support with reading, writing and maths
-
Additional help from teaching assistants
-
Pastoral support for emotional well-being
-
Help with costs for school trips, swimming, uniforms and clubs

If you think your child may be eligible for Free School Meals – even if they’re already getting meals in Reception or KS1 – please contact the school office. Registering may mean your child can benefit from extra support through Pupil Premium funding.

Covid Catch-Up Premium
Our Approach to Covid Recovery
Following the disruption caused by school closures during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020 and 2021, we created a School Recovery Plan in line with guidance from the North Yorkshire Educational Psychology team. Our first focus was to help children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn again.
The five key principles we followed were:
-
Safety – Helping everyone feel safe in school again.
-
Calm – Supporting children to manage their emotions and feel settled.
-
Confidence – Encouraging belief in themselves and their ability to succeed.
-
Connection – Rebuilding friendships and a sense of belonging in school.
-
Hope – Helping children feel positive about the future.

Catch-Up Priorities
When children returned in March 2021, we focused on:

Whole School Goals:
-
Promoting positive mental health and emotional well-being
-
Filling gaps in learning, especially in reading, writing and maths
-
Building pupils’ confidence in speaking and listening
-
Creating chances for creativity and hands-on learning
-
Re-engaging children with sport and physical activity
-
Strengthening our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) curriculum
-
Assessing learning carefully to identify needs

Targeted Support for Some Pupils:
-
Catch-up in specific subject areas
-
Support for children who struggled to engage with remote learning
-
Help with confidence and self-esteem
-
Support to re-adjust to school routines and expectations
-

Wider Focus Areas:
-
Making good use of technology for learning
-
Strengthening our relationships with parents, building on the teamwork developed during lockdown
All of this has been planned and costed in a detailed Catch-Up Funding Plan, which you can download below.
