Year 2

Year 2 is taught by Mrs Payne and supported by Mrs Devlin on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Broughton on Thursday and Friday. The class will be taught by Miss Blackie on a Wednesday afternoon.

 

Phonics, English, Reading Practice and Maths are taught during the morning which leaves our afternoons for Mastering Number and exploring the rest of the curriculum.

Our maths lessons in the Summer term will include the following topics; mass, capacity and temperature, fractions, time, statistics and position and direction.

During the Summer term we will be exploring everyday materials followed by plants in our Science lessons.

In history we are learning about the local history of Sutton. We will then build on this knowledge in Geography during the second half term, learning about our physical location, including key features and the weather.

Our art focus is 3D Art and in Summer 2 our design and technology focus will be structures.

In our computing lessons we will be learning about coding, presenting our ideas and making music.

Our R.E lessons will be further developing our understanding about Judaism and Hinduism.

In our PSHE lessons will be exploring the SCARF topics ‘Being my best’ and ‘Growing and changing’.

 

PE

PE will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday in the Summer term. We will have a gymnastics lesson and a tennis lesson. It is very important that you come to school in your PE kit on these days. Please ensure you have a white T shirt, black shorts/track suits and trainers. You may also want a purple hoody for when we are outside.

 

Reading Books

Please continue to listen to your child read. Children will bring a new reading book home every Thursday and it must be returned the following Thursday so that a new book can be sent home. Children will continue to move through the Little Wandle reading books whilst in Year 2 until they have reached the end of the scheme. They will then choose books at their reading level from our library to take home, whilst reading the Little Wandle Fluency books in school during weekly reading practice sessions.

 

Home Learning

Children will have weekly spellings to practice linked to our Little Wandle Phonics and spelling lessons that week. The children will be exposed to these words in these lessons and then have the chance to practise these spellings in school every morning.

Spelling tests are on Friday mornings.
