Year 2

Year 2 is taught by Mrs Payne and is supported by Mrs Devlin on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Mrs Broughton on Thursday and Friday and Miss Booker on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Monday and Friday mornings. The class will be taught by Miss Ibbotson on a Wednesday afternoon. 

 

Phonics, English, Reading Practice and Maths are taught during the morning which leaves our afternoons for Mastering Number and exploring the rest of the curriculum.

Our maths lessons in the Autumn term will include the following topics; place value and addition and subtraction. 

During the Autumn term we will be exploring 'animals including humans' in our Science lessons.

In history we are learning about nurses and how nursing has changed since the Crimean War. 

Our art focus is drawing and in Autumn 2 our design and technology focus will be sewing.

In our computing lessons we will be learning about the internet and what this actually is, followed by learning about algorithms.

Our R.E lessons will be developing our understanding about Judaism.

In our PSHE lessons will be exploring the SCARF topics ‘Me and my relationships’ and ‘Valuing differences’.

 

PE

PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday in the Autumn term. We will be focusing on gymnastics and ball skills. It is very important that you come to school in your PE kit on these days. Please ensure you have a white T shirt, black shorts/track suits and trainers. You may also want a purple hoody for when we are outside.

 

Reading Books

Please continue to listen to your child read. Children will bring a new reading book home every Wednesday and it must be returned the following Wednesday so that a new book can be sent home. Children will continue to move through the Little Wandle reading books whilst in Year 2 until they have reached the end of the scheme. They will then choose books at their reading level from our library to take home, whilst reading the Little Wandle Fluency books in school during weekly reading practice sessions.

 

Home Learning

Children will have weekly spellings to practice linked to our Little Wandle Phonics and spelling lessons that week. The children will be exposed to these words in these lessons and then have the chance to practise these spellings in school every morning. Spelling tests are on Friday mornings.
