Year 1

This year Year 1 will be taught by Miss Wilding with support from Miss Blackie (Mon & Thurs afternoons), Mrs Ward and Miss Walton.

 

Spring Term

We are looking forward to many exciting activities this term in Year 1.

 

In the morning our first job is to practise our phonics then we move into our English learning. After a snack and playtime, we begin our Maths topic - this term we are learning about place value, addition/subtraction, length/height and mass/capacity.

Our afternoons begin with Mastering Number sessions followed by various National Curriculum topics. 

 

We also complete our reading practice weekly on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Books will be sent home on a Friday and need to be returned each Wednesday. Please read with your child every night - this will have a big impact on their reading confidence.

 

Foundation subjects:

Geography – The United Kingdom (location, place, human/physical geography and geographical skills).

Science – Animals including humans.

RE – Christianity, Islam and special places.

Art – Exploring colour and painting.

PSHCE – Valuing differences and keeping safe.

PE – Basic attack skills - follow and respond to instructions, change speed, direction and control, participate in team games and begin to understand the principles of attack vs defence, be able to defend a goal or a target

Please practise the phonics sounds sent home as this is really important in supporting your child.
