Safeguarding Advice for Visitors

It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that our children stay safe. Each person who works in school, or visits, shares that responsibility.

This guidance has been provided to make sure you understand what is expected of you as a visitor or temporary person working at our school. Please do not hesitate to talk to any member of staff if you are unclear about anything you read.

If you are a supply teacher here, you have been employed on the condition that you have read and understood Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023

If you have concerns about the safety of any young person in our school, you must report this to the Designated Safeguarding Lead or Deputy.

On arrival in school you will be asked to sign in and present ID. If you will be working without a member of staff present (for example agency workers) we will have been provided with confirmation of your DBS and other safeguarding checks from your agency.

You will be asked to wear a visitors badge whilst in school.

IN CASE OF FIRE

In the unlikely event of the fire alarm sounding, please evacuate the school and proceed to the assembly point. The main assembly point is in the front playground by the bin store. These points are displayed around school.

Please exit the nearest doors as directed by a member of school staff.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM WORRIED ABOUT A CHILD?

If, whilst working with a child, you become concerned for any reason e.g.

· Comment made by a child

· Marks or bruises

· Changes in behavior and demeanor

· A child discloses something to you

· Another member of staff has behaved or acted in such a way to cause concern

Please report your concerns to one of the designated leads. Their names are displayed around school and on back of this leaflet.  Any staff will also be able to help you find them.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF A CHILD DISCLOSES HE/SHE IS BEING HARMED?

· Record details as soon as possible recording exact words and phrases used by the child. We will then be able to add this to CPOMS (our safeguarding record system) and take appropriate action

· Please sign and date all notes

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE ALLEGATION IS AGAINST STAFF?

You should report the allegation to any of our safeguarding leads. If you are not comfortable speaking to any staff then you can contact the North Yorkshire LADO on 01609 532152 or contact the NSPCC on 0808 800 5000.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE ALLEGATION IS ABOUT THE HEADTEACHER?

As above or alert a Deputy Safeguarding Lead who will signpost you to the Chair of Governors.

HOW DO I ENSURE MY BEHAVIOUR IS ALWAYS APPROPRIATE?

Appropriate relationships with children are based on mutual trust and respect. Please do not photograph children, exchange emails or text messages or give your own personal details.

Please make sure you only use a mobile phone in the staffroom areas. Use of a phone when children are in the vicinity is prohibited.
