Social Media Statement

Parents and families of children in North Yorkshire Schools are increasingly using social networking sites such as Whatsapp or Facebook to communicate with each other. Whilst these platforms are generally a useful way for parents to keep in touch, there have occasionally been times when parents have used these sites to criticise or make inappropriate comments about school, individual staff or pupils.

We ask all parents and carers to be mindful when using social media or other online platforms to discuss school matters. Making defamatory comments about the school, staff members, other parents, or pupils online can have serious consequences. Defamatory statements—those that damage someone's reputation—may result in legal action being taken against you. Additionally, malicious communications intended to cause distress or anxiety are a criminal offence under the Malicious Communications Act 1988.

If you have any concerns about anything which happens in school, please speak to your child’s class teacher in the first instance or make an appointment to see the Deputy or Headteacher who will do their best to resolve things.

If a matter remains unresolved we encourage you to use our formal complaints procedure.
